May 2022 – Gail Lott

At our May meeting, we welcomed three new members, Barbara S, Monti S, and Jennifer M.

First, a Bit of Business

  • We had a brief meeting about our move to our new location, Northside Fellowship. Members voted to make the move. A moving date was set, so that everyone could come to help move our supply room.
  • Enola reminded everyone about upcoming retreat at Ponderosa.
  • Teresa announced that on Saturday there will be a workshop, “Back to the Basics.” Time is from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.
  • ———————————–CHARITY UPDATES——————————-
  • Mary reminded everyone about the Adoption quilts. Labels have been ordered from Spoonflower. Due date is June 15th.
  • Amy showed some placemats that had been donated. We are going to collect these for Meals on Wheels, and they are due at the October meeting.
  • Amy also told us about her trip to “the Mill,” recently under new ownership and now known as Oxford Cutting and Finishing (1503. W. Hanover Road, Burlington, NC). She discovered that the new owner had at one time needed a NICU quilt for one of their children. Members decided to support Oxford Shop with this project. Amy is to get more information and get back to the members with details.

Guest Speaker, Gail Lott

Our guest speaker for the evening was Gail Lott, who lives in Greensboro. She was a nurse for 37 years, but Covid injections and vaccines caused her to come out of retirement.

Her Grandmother was a quilter and has been her inspiration over her life. She sewed her own clothes as well as making her children’s clothes as they grew up.

She took a quilt class from GTCC, using sand paper templets. She watched Alex Anderson and others on TV to learn how to use a rotary cutter.

One of the first quilts that she made was a quilt for her Grandson whose birthday is in February, that is why it has hearts.

Gail taught a Saturday workshop class on fabric painting for our guild. The Leaf Painting class was very productive. The table runner was a fun project! She made the leaf quilt in a class with Teresa.

She has made several Log Cabin quilts in different patterns and colors. The yellow one named “Sunshine Cabins” is her most recent one.

Gail tried her hand at a modern quilt. She liked modern quilts so well that she tried circles.  She put a different motif in the center of each circle.
